and on the 4th day..

sick day

and on the 4th day.. finally feeling better

The sun is up, the skies are blue and the air is chilly.. this is the 4th day and Keira is finally feeling better. Yay! She had a bad case of stomach flu/food poisoning/something similar to gastro. Her stomach is still making weird noises but today is the day she tries to make it to school. Let's see, in 4 days she has eaten: 3 bites of cereal bar (that did not stay down), 4 crackers, 1 small bowl of pasta, 1 peanut butter bear sandwich (cookie cutter size) and 3 pear slices. The last 4 "meals" stayed down so I think it's safe for her to get back to school.

Wishing you all a very healthy weekend!

sick tummy day

sac magique
A bit of 'heat' to ease her tummy..
no food please  No food please!

Is this the face of a sick kid? Sadly yes. lol. Keira woke up complaining of a tummy ache but acted like she just wanted to stay home. So what did I do? I sent her to school! Here's how I know she really is sick:

1. She'll complain that she's sick but once at school is fine and never has the school nurse call us to pick her up. Once that phone calls comes through though, it's the real deal.
2. She won't eat. Even if she's up and about and acting normal, if she doesn't eat snacks, chocolates or cheese.. it's the real deal.
3. She doesn't talk as much. That is.. THE REAL DEAL.

So I picked her up from school and brought her home where she proceeded to have 2 of 3 above (minus the 'doesn't talk as much' bit) plus the going to the washroom a few times bit. Hopefully she'll be up for a bland pasta dinner and lots of fluids. By tomorrow, she should be good as new! (Crossing my fingers).

electric hair, a new frame & saying goodbye

frame
Well that's a pretty mish-mash mélange title for a post isn't it? Pretty much.

Here's a frame I picked up downtown last week. Usually I eschew these cheesy types of frames but.. I couldn't help but pick this one up. I really love it and after seeing the 3 musketeers photos within, am thinking of getting a similar type of frame for me. This one is for my mom for Easter and I think she'll love seeing her grandkids goofing it up in this.

Meanwhile, we gave away Keira's old bikes to her little cousin (cousin once removed). Keira received these bikes from one of my wonderful friends (Thanks Heather!) and she's now outgrown them even though she won't admit it. She loves those princess bikes but her legs are scrunched up while pedalling. It's time for a big girl's bike this year. Little cousin Flo was happy to get her new (old) princess bike, made even better because it belonged to Keira! And anything associated with her big cousin Keira is triple A good to her. They had a small trampoline time together while I loaded up their car and Flo got the electric-sunshine-hair going on. Meanwhile, Keira gave her bikes a last goodbye and then cried about it afterwards. It's hard to say goodbye to all those good summer memories! Here's to making new ones.

thank you bloesem blog! happy friday folks

Our Mom Story over at Bloesem Blog

End of the week! And what a week. Sunshine and highs of 22º+ c (71º f)! Incredible. Of course with this beautiful weather comes out all the pollen and dust outside and my allergies have kept me in some kind of hazy fog as well. I had a super start to this week thanks to Tiffany of Five Hundred Miles blog and also Sincerely Pierre as well as Irene of Bloesem Blog to be featured in their weekly Mom Stories. Thank you Irene and Tiffany! Although Irene is one of the super bloggers, she sure is down to earth and very open and friendly. I was introduced to Tiffany by my good friend Kristin of KLTworks. Anyone who Kristin introduces me to, I know I won't ever regret it. And how true about Tiffany! She's creative, funny and sincere. I love that about a person.

Bloesem Blog is one of the premiere design, culture, living and art blogs and there are also the Bloesem bKids and newly introduced bStudio (photography) spin-offs as well. Yep, you guessed it. bKids is my fave of them all and when I was asked to be a part of their Mom Story, I was a little surprised. It was fun to do! A great way to start a good week. Hope yours was good too! Happy Friday everyone.

☞Don't forget to check out Bloesem Blog if you don't already. And you can always always connect with Irene  and Tiffany via Twitter. There might be a small delay in conversing with Irene as she's in Kuala Lumpur time. ☺

heartbreaker, girls' night & one direction

reads

It's almost Friday. It's been a very busy week. There never seems to be enough time to just chillax and get life organized but then, that's life in a nutshell isn't it?

It's a girls night tonight and Keira and I went out for supper. She seemed a little down today when I picked her up after school and usually, when I suggest we go out for supper she protests and wants to eat at home. Tonight, she really wanted to go out. Just before she went to bed, she finally let it out of the bag that her friends completely blew her off today and chewed her out as well. You see, she likes to 'shadow talk' people. You know? Repeat what you say as well as your movements? While I find it hilarious and funny when she does it to me, I can understand how it would have annoyed her friends. It's just heartbreaking for me to hear how they chewed her out and then said, 'c'mon, let's go play by ourselves without Keira'.

Ouch.

She admitted she cried and had to talk with a school monitor to feel a bit better because, 'ça faisait de la peine'. Basically, it hurt her feelings. I explained to her how some people can get really annoyed with being shadowed, so don't do it anymore at school. Keira told me how she cried a bit more, spoke with another friend and this girl (bless her soul!) told her that everything was ok now, let's just play.

Not the last of these kinds of incidents but oh how I wish I could just put her in a warm and safe bubble! F O R E V E R.

In other news, some exciting things coming up in the near future. I've also been loving all the new issues of print mags out there including the newest Milk magazine and JCrew catalog! Also in other news, I've been loving watching One Direction and listening to their really catchy tunes (hells ye-ah! I did buy their LP on iTunes). Reminds me of my teenage years buying Bop and Tiger Beat, swooning over Rob Lowe in the Outsiders (gold Johnny! stay gold!) and pasting DuranDuran/Depeche Mode posters all over my walls. ah youth..

Enjoy the catchy tune (makes me want to head back to Cali coast)! We're looking forward to the St Patty's day parade this weekend so Keira can celebrate the Irish in her! Holla fellow Wards 'n McDonough's!

saturday down in town.

saturday afternoon downtown
Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

It smells like spring! And it's warm like spring too. After Keira's last swimming lesson (she passed! she's on to level junior 3 now), we decided to head downtown and walk around. I wanted to see if the Anthropologie was open but it looks like construction stopped dead in its track. Shame.

Holts

We headed over to the new Tiffany's on Sherbrooke and I laughed when Keira asked why we weren't buying anything there. We also decided at the last minute to head across the street from Tiffany's to check out the new wing of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Claire and Marc Bourgie Pavillon. It is stunning! It's also free entrance to view the permanent collection so head on over there when you have a chance. We loved it! It's always a treat to seep some art into the kiddo.

C'est du barbouillage? - Riopelle Kiki: Is that scribbling? Papa: Yes, very expensive scribbling.

We then headed out for some drinks. For some reason, possibly the weather muddled our brains, we headed to Hurley's Irish pub but didn't get past the front door because Keira wasn't allowed in. Um, duh us. Good thing we didn't go in because after a peek, there was some rowdy Irish celebrations going on already! St Patrick's day parade apparently does not start next week for some people. lol.

Les 3 brasseurs

We ended up at Les 3 Brasseurs. Beer for us adults, juice and incredibly yummy fries for Keira.  And the cap to our great evening out? Take-out from Schwartz's deli for some world-famous Montreal smoked meat! Oh it was so good... Good thing we did take-out because the line-up to get in to eat went around the corner.
